STONELEIGH PINOT NOIR
£9.99
Pinot Noir, which is set to become New Zealand's next international wine success story, is being harvested in larger and larger quantities as new vineyards come on stream. As well as making red wine, there are significant quantities of rosé being vinified from this variety. Considering the price you pay for rosé Sancerre to enjoy the lovely earthy and fruity combination of flavours you get from Pinot Noir, this Kiwi interpretation is a bargain. The nose has fragrant aromas of raspberry & strawberry fruit, with cherry and boysenberry notes. The palate shows more raspberry & cherry flavours with a rich concentrated palate, balanced with fresh and natural acidity. Once picked, the grapes were partially bunch pressed, and the juice allowed to cold-soak on the skins for 24 hours to obtain the deep pink hue, before being completely pressed of the skins. The must was allowed to settle then racked before the clear juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks. The fermentation was stopped with residual sugar (8g/L) to balance the crisp natural acidity of the wine. Malolactic conversion was encouraged also to create a softer mouthfeel. The wine was fined and filtered before bottling.
